Historic Cannizaro Park Aviary hosts artworks by Donhead Prep pupils

November 12, 2025

A new art exhibition by pupils from Donhead Preparatory School, Wimbledon, is now open at Cannizaro Park’s Aviary.

Created by children in the school’s Art Club, the exhibition explores the theme ‘Remember’ through symbols, emotions, and stories connected to the impacts of conflict.

Hosted by the Friends of Cannizaro Park, the exhibition was timed to coincide with Remembrance Day and invites visitors to pause and reflect on the sacrifices of those who served in the armed forces and the ongoing importance of peace.

The artworks are housed in the Aviary, a striking Gothic-style building constructed in 1976. Once home to exotic birds, it was until recently the only remaining aviary of its kind in London. Now revitalised as a community art space, it provides a serene environment for reflection and creativity.

Headteacher of Donhead Preparatory School, Catherine Hitchcock, said:

“Our pupils have created deeply thoughtful and moving pieces. Through art, they've captured the spirit of remembrance not just as a moment of reflection, but as a message of hope for the future.”

Visitors can explore the Donhead Prep art exhibition throughout November. Entry is free, and all are welcome.

About Donhead Preparatory School

Donhead Preparatory School in Wimbledon is a Catholic preparatory school rooted in the Jesuit tradition. Its approach to education emphasises cura personalis—care of the whole person—helping children grow academically, creatively, and personally. Pupils develop curiosity, compassion, and confidence alongside strong academic foundations.

Donhead is one of the Jesuit schools in Britain, part of a global network dedicated to forming young people who are thoughtful, compassionate, and committed to the common good. This summer, students across Jesuit schools in Britain celebrated excellent GCSE and A-Level results, demonstrating that academic achievement and personal formation go hand in hand.

What makes a Jesuit education?

A Jesuit education seeks “improvement in living and learning for the greater glory of God and the common good.” It encourages pupils to be grateful, attentive, compassionate, and truthful, while also cultivating curiosity, engagement, and intentional living. Academic excellence is paired with moral and social responsibility, preparing pupils to contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
