Integral Ecology Summer School returns this August – applications close 23 January

January 15, 2026

The Integral Ecology Summer School is back this August (1–14 August 2026) as a two-part experience at Campion Hall, University of Oxford, and Belmont Abbey, Herefordshire.

Rooted in Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, this two-week immersive programme brings together study, Ignatian reflection, and hands-on ecological practice, supporting participants to move from reflection to action in caring for our common home. Applications close on 23 January.

Hosted by the Integral Ecology Research Network (IERN) and the Laudato Si’ Research Institute at Campion Hall, Oxford with support from our Province, the Summer School is designed primarily for Jesuits in formation, though other religious and lay participants engaged in ecological ministry are also welcome.

Fr Peter Rozic SJ, the Jesuit leading the programme, describes it as “a two-week programme that takes Laudato Si’ from concept to action. Based at Campion Hall, Oxford, and Belmont Abbey in Herefordshire, it brings Jesuits in formation, alongside a small cohort of others, into rigorous study, Ignatian reflection, and hands-on engagement with agro-ecological practice. It equips participants to integrate faith, ecology and action in service of ecological justice and pastoral leadership.”

Building on its inaugural year in 2025, which brought together Jesuits from four continents for two weeks of study, reflection, and ecological practice, the Summer School continues to foster global collaboration and a deeper understanding of integral ecology. Participants spend the first week at Campion Hall, engaging in seminars and dialogue on ecological theology, justice, and spirituality, before moving to Belmont Abbey in Herefordshire for hands-on agro-ecological work that connects intellectual learning with practical experience.

The programme is designed not simply to deepen knowledge, but to equip participants to integrate ecological concern into their ministries — whether in parishes, schools, or wider social initiatives — and to reflect on how their own work can serve ecological justice. With places limited and applications closing on 23 January 2026, those discerning a call to this work are warmly encouraged to apply soon.
