JRS UK seeks Detention Outreach Caseworker to support people in immigration detention

September 1, 2025

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) UK is inviting applications for a Detention Outreach Caseworker, a vital frontline role offering accompaniment, practical support, and advocacy to people held in immigration detention.

Based at the Hurtado Jesuit Centre in Wapping, the Caseworker will join JRS UK’s Detention Outreach team, which works at Harmondsworth and Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centres near Heathrow. The role involves providing emotional and practical support to detainees, making referrals to legal specialists and partner organisations, and liaising with detention staff and immigration services. The Caseworker will also support people after release from detention, recognising the lasting impact of being held in immigration custody.

JRS UK is part of an international Catholic organisation working in over 50 countries, accompanying and advocating alongside refugees and forcibly displaced people. In the UK, JRS supports people made destitute by the asylum system through the provision of accommodation, food and clothing, legal advice, activities and community, alongside its work in detention.

The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and offered on a 12-month contract with potential to renew. Salary is £30,000–£36,000, with an additional 10% employer pension contribution. Hybrid working is available.

Applications, consisting of a CV and cover letter, should be sent to sara.adan@jrs.net by Sunday 14th September (11:59pm). Interviews will take place during the week commencing Monday 29th September.

The full job description is available to download (see below). JRS UK particularly encourages applications from people with first-hand experience of the UK asylum or immigration system, as well as those from underrepresented communities. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
