Watch live this Thursday: Jesuit press conference and memorial mass on Pope Francis’ legacy

April 23, 2025

On Thursday April 24th, the General Curia of the Society of Jesus in Rome will host a livestreamed press conference and memorial mass in honour of the life and legacy of Pope Francis.

Fr Arturo Sosa SJ, Superior General of the Jesuits, will lead reflections on Pope Francis’ Petrine ministry and his enduring witness to the Gospel.

A Jesuit Pope

Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was the first Jesuit ever elected to the papacy. His formation within the Society of Jesus deeply shaped his pastoral style, theological outlook, and commitment to the marginalised. Known for his emphasis on discernment, humility, and a Church that “goes forth,” Francis carried the Ignatian charism into every aspect of his leadership, bridging the spiritual tradition of St Ignatius of Loyola with the urgent realities of the contemporary world.
