Thinking Faith Podcast Presenter Role

Details of this exciting new opportunity (and how to apply)

This is a new opportunity to present two pilot podcast series for Thinking Faith which will focus on reaching out to a new, younger audience who are interested in: Catholic life, the ‘bigger picture’, Ignatian spirituality, how to make ‘good’ decisions, and living an ‘authentic life’. This role would be ideal either for somebody who wants to gain more experience in presenting podcasts, or a seasoned presenter who would like to expand their range of output.

We have already carried out qualitative and quantitative research to help us understand how Thinking Faith can adapt its content and mission to these new audiences, and podcasts came out top as a new medium to explore. We are looking for a presenter to help take this exciting project forward.

This role will be integral in helping to design, produce and broadcast a new pilot podcast for Thinking Faith, which is an online publication from the Jesuits in Britain. Thinking Faith explores issues of Faith, Ethics and Belief through the lens of contemporary issues. It has recently completed a process of reimagining what it offers, and to whom, which means that this is an exciting opportunity to become involved in the first stages of a new creative endeavour!

Presenter skills are essential for this role, but equally important is the ability help design, imagine and create a podcast. A knowledge of Jesuit spirituality would be useful, but is not essential, as the host will work closely with the podcast producer and director of Thinking Faith.

Thinking Faith is one of the Works of the Jesuits in Britain, who are part of the global Catholic religious order of the Society of Jesus. Increasingly, the Jesuits’ mission is focused on accompanying young people, and those who live on the margins of society. It does this through, among other things, education, supporting asylum seekers and the homeless, research into ecological issues, and grant-giving to good causes.

The Jesuits are priests and brothers, but their mission is supported by a wide variety of lay staff from different backgrounds who are motivated by a desire for a fairer, more just world.

The position is for half a day’s work a week (4 hours), for an initial run of three months, and is based in Mayfair, central London, with a small, friendly team.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

- Previous experience of working as a show or studio presenter

- Curious, enquiring mind, personable and comfortable asking challenging questions that really dig deep into a topic

- Aptitude for presenting shows to broadcast quality, with an imaginative attitude, and willingness to try new ideas

- Experience of interviewing

- An interest in issues of Catholic faith, belief and self-growth

- Good communicator and team player, able to engage with a wide range of people ranging from other team members to potential guests

- Motivated, and able to set and adhere to deadlines

- The salary is £20 per hour, for 4 hours per week

To apply, please send your CV, an example of your presenter work, and a covering letter explaining why you are right for the role to jmcmanus@jesuit.org.uk

The closing date for applications is Wednesday the 8th March 2023. Interview dates TBC.
