After the trip, members of the group were invited to host the We Found the Food programme on Radio Maria England (a title pointing to the need for spiritual nourishment). During the broadcast, they shared how the holiday had deepened their faith. They also encouraged other young Catholics to get involved in Jesuit Young Adult Ministries.
Veronica, who hosted the conversation, highlighted the vibrancy of the London community:
“Farm Street Church has a huge outreach programme and our young adult Mass at 7.00pm on Sundays is always heaving, there’s always new people every weekend, there’s activities going on all the time, and that’s really where you can find the food if you’re feeling hungry too.”
Clara reflected on the simplicity of the group’s time in Barmouth:
“We don’t really need that much to be happy and to have our hearts full. The best part about Wales was how simple everything really was – we just had each other, we had a sense of community, joy, nature, and prayer. And that is what filled our days.”
Carl agreed, noting how joy and faith intertwined throughout the trip:
“There was something so beautifully simple, almost Ignatian about the holiday, that we found God in everything – in the bonfires we shared together, the daily Masses, the prayer, but also in the fun and the laughter, in ABBA parties – just a moment of pure joy!”
Ken Vance, a Jesuit Brother who accompanied the group to Barmouth, said:
“Having recovered from a week-long stint of cooking, I realise how privileged I was to be involved with such an interesting and lively group of young people. Their energy, talent and quiet devotion was an inspiration to an old man like me. This is the third year of providing food for the group and it was the largest number yet.”
The interview will be re-aired on Friday 12 September at 7.45pm on Radio Maria England. You can listen live online here.
Jesuit young adult groups are restarting their weekly activities this September, inviting young adults aged roughly 18–35 to reconnect, grow in faith, and build community. Rooted in Ignatian spirituality, the groups encourage participants to notice where God is at work in everyday life, while offering a welcoming space to make friends, explore faith, and celebrate the joy of community.
