Running through the autumn, the programme brings together theology, spirituality, literature and the arts, with opportunities to take part both at the Centre in central London and online.
Among the courses beginning in November is Incarnation: The Christ of the Creeds, a five-week exploration of how Christians came to understand Jesus of Nazareth as both fully human and fully God. Beginning on 3 November, the course traces key moments in the development of Christian thought and considers questions that theologians continue to explore today. Participants can join in person or online, with the subject also available as a one-day study day.
On 21 November, Art & Soul: Creative Day Retreat offers a different way of making space for reflection. Bringing together scripture, poetry, music, prayer and creative activities, the retreat invites participants to explore and express what is stirring within them through mixed-media art, including collage. No previous artistic experience is needed and all materials are provided.
The programme also turns to one of the most remarkable figures of medieval Christianity with Cry Out and Speak: Hildegard von Bingen’s Prophetic Project. Beginning on 2 November, the five-week course explores Hildegard as mystic, composer, letter writer and healer, and considers how her call for a right relationship with God and creation might speak to the challenges of our own time.
Alongside these courses and retreats, the London Jesuit Centre offers a monthly Literature and Theology Reading Group, fortnightly Guided Prayer Online, and further opportunities to study, pray and explore questions of faith with others.
Whether joining for sustained study, a day of retreat or regular guided prayer, the autumn programme offers a range of ways to step away from the demands of daily life and make room for deeper reflection.
