London Jesuit Centre publishes inaugural issue of Journal of Public Theology

January 8, 2026

The London Jesuit Centre (LJC) has published the inaugural issue of the Journal of Public Theology, a collection of essays written by students on its School of Public Theology course.

Produced within LJC’s Social and Environmental Justice stream, the journal brings together thoughtful and engaging reflections on how Christian theology can speak into the social, cultural, and political questions shaping contemporary public life. These essays are the fruit of sustained reading, shared conversation, and careful academic supervision, offering a vivid snapshot of the theological reflection taking shape within this learning community.

Public theology, as it is practised at LJC, is not simply an academic exercise carried out at a distance from everyday life. Rather, it is rooted in lived experience, asking how faith can illuminate, challenge, and question the assumptions that shape our shared social world.

The Social and Environmental Justice stream at LJC offers a range of courses and events throughout the year for anyone interested in exploring how faith connects with issues of justice, ecology, and public life. Its programmes aim to equip people with theological tools to think deeply, speak responsibly, and act faithfully within today’s social and political landscape. You can find out more on the LJC website.

The inaugural issue of the Journal of Public Theology can be read online here.

We hope this new publication invites further dialogue and encourages readers to consider how theology might speak meaningfully into the public worlds we all share.
