The conference brought together 62 participants, many working in theological institutions and Jesuit ministries, for several days of prayer, reflection and conversation on the theme “Ignatian Mission: A Joy which is Shared.”
Rooted in the tradition of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius, the gathering explored how the experience of finding God in all things leads to a mission that is lived out in service to others.
Keynote speakers included Nicholas Austin SJ, Master of Campion Hall, Oxford; Fran Murphy, Editor of Thinking Faith; Patrick Goujon SJ, a Jesuit scholar of Ignatian spirituality; and Michael Barnes SJ, a theologian known for his work in interreligious relations.
Alongside the keynote talks, participants took part in workshops exploring a range of ministries shaped by Ignatian spirituality, including prison chaplaincy, digital prayer initiatives such as Pray As You Go, and the outreach work of the St Beuno’s team in the Diocese of Wrexham.
Other sessions reflected on the life of Mama Antula, canonised in 2024, whose promotion of the Spiritual Exercises in 18th-century Argentina offers a powerful example of collaboration in mission.
Reflecting on the conference, Fran Murphy of Thinking Faith said:
“The joy of shared mission was evident at St Beuno's throughout the days of the conference. From the keynote talks and workshops, to the liturgies and mealtime conversations, there was an atmosphere of generosity and gratitude as we all recognised the fruits of what we were sharing.”
The conference provided space for those engaged in spiritual direction and Ignatian ministry to share experience, deepen their prayer, and reflect together on how the joy of the Gospel continues to shape their work today.
